A team of researchers in China claims to have created the “world’s first human-monkey hybrid.”
The breakthrough but controversial experiment was led by Spanish scientist Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, and while embryos have been created, none of them were born as they were only allowed to grow beyond a week or two, as reported byMIT Technology Review.
According to Spanish newspaper El Pais, the researchers managed to merge the human stem cells and the monkey embryo to form a “chimera” embryo.
Izpisua is no stranger in the field, having created the “world’s first human-pig embryo” back in 2017.
I'm all for science and I'm all for innovation... but creating a monkey-human hybrid?
I'm sorry... it's got me shook. Because playing GOD doesn't always end well, does it?
